ARCHEOMEDSITES, a new project to improve the management of archeological sites in the Mediterranean area

ARCHEOMEDSITES, project funded in the framework of the second standard call, will be presented during a press conference to place place in Rome on 1st April. This new initiative, which gathers 11 public and private actors of the cultural sector from Italy, Lebanon and Tunisia, is coordinated by the Italian Ministry for cultural heritage and activities and for tourism.

Over a period of two years, ARCHEOMEDSITES will seek to develop the strategic planning capacities of central and local institutions in the management of selected archeological and historical sites through the exchange of know-how and good practices. Among the expected results are the implementation of governance and maintenance plans of archeological sites and the reinforcement of management skills of concerned staff. In the long term, touristic flows in the target sites should be increased of 10%. 

These issues will be discussed during the project launching press conference by Mr. Remon Areiji, Lebanese Minister of Culture (live from Beirut); Mr. Adnan Louihichi, General Director of National Heritage Institute of Tunis; Mr. Andrea Meloni, General Director at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Maria Grazia Bellisario, ARCHEOMEDSITES project coordinator and Director at the Italian Ministry of Cultural heritage. Ms. Anna Catte, Director of the Joint Managing Authority, will also take part in the event focusing on the contribution of the projects funded by the ENPI CBC Med Programme in the field of culture. 

The press conference takes place at the premises of "Associazione della stampa estera"(Via dell'Umiltà, 83 - Roma) starting from 11.15. a.m.
