Constitution of the ENPI CBC Med Programme Joint Monitoring Commitee

The first meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee of the ENPI CBC "Mediterranean Sea Basin" Programme – of which the Autonomous Region of Sardinia is Joint Managing Authority – has taken place in Cagliari on November 5th and 6th November. The President of the Sardinia Region, Mr Renato Soru, and Mrs Bodil Persson, representative of the European Commission, have introduced the works of the Committee.
Delegations from 14 countries have participated to this first meeting, respectively 7 EU member States (Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain) and 7 Mediterranean Partner Countries (Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia).

Following its formal constitution, the Joint Monitoring Committee – decision-making body of the Programme chaired by the Sardinia Region in its role of Joint Managing Authority – has adopted its internal regulation, the 2008-2009 working plan and related budget, the information and communication plan as well as the terms of reference for the selection of the Joint Technical Secretariat. The next meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee will take place in Jordan around mid-December.

During the press conference held on November 5th, President Soru, in presence of all the heads of delegation, has underlined the synergies between the 4 priorities of the Programme and the issues tackled in the declaration of the Paris summit on the Union for the Mediterranean. He also underlined the honor for the Sardinia Region to coordinate such an important Programme given the territories and population involved as well as the financial allocation.

The launch of the first call for proposals is foreseen by the end of the year while the launching seminar of the Programme will probably take place in February in Cagliari.
