World Water Day: wastewater, the new black gold?

Wastewater and its increased reuse for domestic, agricultural and industrial consumption is the theme of this year United Nations World Water Day. In a new report "Wastewater: the Untapped Resource", the United Nations advocate for a paradigm shift towards the exploitation of wastewater in a world where water is finite and demand is growing.

The whole Mediterranean region is affected by a severe waster crisis, calling for innovative technical and regulatory solutions to meet the growing demand for freshwater. It is time to take action and reuse more wastewater. Efficient management of water resources in agriculture as well as the use of non-conventional water supply have been identified by the ENI CBC Med Programme as the key themes to contribute to safe and secure access to water in the Mediterranean region.
