METAS - MEditerranean Territorial Advanced Strategy on diversification into new segments and niches on sustainable tourism

Brief description of the project: To contribute to integrated rural development and balanced territorial development in rural areas, one of the main instruments is promotion of natural and cultural heritage of the inland areas. Travelers valorize other aspects not limited to tourism of sun and beach so consolidated. Segments such as nature and ecological tourism also allow greater economic benefits and therefore various activities related to sport or enjoyment of natural heritage are being coming more and more important and implementing. It is estimated that promotion of these tourism segments, as well as the valorization of the rich natural and cultural heritage, combats the seasonality that defines the coastal regions tourism sector and extend the offer to other seasons of the year. Diversification and homogeneous development of the partners´ regions (translated into job creation and GDP growth) can go hand in hand in promoting new sustainable economic initiatives in traditional sectors.
Main objectives – issues to be addressed: The aim of the project is to ensure the development of the cooperation areas by improving the economy and promoting key economic sectors, committed to the pursuit of excellence and improvement in the products and services offered, and the valorization of some of the main resources in the Mediterranean areas: agrifood products, eno-gastronomy, craftworks…
Expected results: Mediterranean Network of IT `Help-desks´ to promote employment in the field of natural and cultural heritage Joint Sustainable Tourism Initiative Financial and technical viability cases of new initiatives (The initiatives funding is not included in the proposal ENI CBC MED) Transnational promotion among local population, visitors and restorers on the agro-food excellences from each region Mediterranean Network of traditional sectors Job creation and GDP growth
Partners already involved: To be confirmed. Expressions of interest from eligible countries have already been received.
Partners searched: •Regional / Local public administrations or foundations; •Other bodies belonging to the following countries: Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia. We are searching for 8 partners from at least 3 of the mentioned countries. Project is being leaded by Fundación MADECA (Public administration in the province of Malaga, Andalusia)
