One of the aims of the M3-HABs project is the implementation of a fully automated procedure to identify toxic algae in marine samples, providing a tool for quantitative and objective count of algae abundance in the local environment. A dedicated opto-mechanical set-up was designed and developed, selecting hardware components to address the needed reliability and usability. In particular, a fine motorized focusing device was integrated in the microscope, allowing to implement three-dimensional morphology reconstruction based on Quantitative Phase Microscopy (QPM).
