ENICOTIANA

Thematic objective: B.4 Environmental protection, climate change adaptation and mitigation
Priority: Priority B.4.3 Support cost-effective and innovative energy rehabilitations relevant to building types and climatic zones, with a focus on public buildings
Brief description of the project: The project tries to fight against desertification in the Mediterranean Sea Basin caused by climate change linked to the need for alternative sources of renewable energy for public building such as biomass from Nicotina Glauca. The Nicotiana Glauca is a member of the Solanaceae, naturalized in the areas of warm-arid climates. This specie has a great importance as a possible energy crop, because of its drought hardiness, sprouting capacity and large biomass productivity. This project is coordinated for by Finnovaregio (acronym: Finnova), which is a non-profit private foundation. Finnova promotes the cooperation for the transference of innovation and entrepreneurship. Finnova is located in Spain and in Belgium. The project will strengthen technical and operational capacities of the public administration and the relevant stakeholders in terms of management of funding sources, as well as policy support, mentoring to entrepreneurs in the sector of biomass.
Main objectives – issues to be addressed: Encourage MSMEs to access new and external knowledge through appropriate mentoring system, and appropriate financial, technical support & coaching Facilitate networking and transference of technology and knowledge, best practices Appropriate financing mechanisms for local entrepreneurship system focus on biomass energy and renewable energies and attraction of talent and investors Common awareness campaign
Expected results: To encourage the biomass crops in areas currently abandoned. To encourage the use of Biomass and green waste for recovery energy for public building (offices, hotels, hospitals swimming pools, sport centres and other municipal buildings). Sustainable rural development and brake to erosion.
