Priority: Priority A.1.2 Strengthen and support euro-Mediterranean networks, clusters, consortia and value-chains in traditional and non-traditional sectors
Brief description of the project: The issue tackled is the difficult access to market for skilled agro food producers in rural areas of Lebanon and other participating countries. The action will foster the creation of a Mediterranean network for Fair Trade actors to increase the revenue of those producers, allowing them to build their future in their villages and regions of origin, fighting thereby rural exodus in Lebanon and other Mediterranean countries. It will include capacity building for the beneficiaries, participation to events, awareness and advocacy on fair trade principles for the general public and the facilitation of a Mediterranean network for fair trade actors. Recipients will be agricultural and agro food cooperatives and SMEs (with support measures for a transition from an informal to a formal status if needed) with a focus on young and women led groups of producers.
Main objectives – issues to be addressed: The action aims to enhance the quality of products of small agro food producers in order to ensure a better access to markets, through creating a network of Fair Trade Mediterranean actors. This network will gather actors from public and private sectors, such as cooperatives, SMEs, local authorities, consumers’ cooperatives and NGOs. It aims at strengthening small agro food producers across the region and promoting the fair trade concept at the local level through the fair trade towns.
Expected results: 1. A Mediterranean network of Fair Trade actors is established (involving cooperatives, SMEs, NGOs, local authorities through the Fair Trade Towns concept) 2. Agro food producers are empowered (trainings, diagnostic) and received certification for their products (organic, fair trade, etc) 3. Agro food producers increases their sales through participation to local and regional events and fairs
