Thematic objective: A.1 Business and SMEs development
Priority: Priority A.1.3 Encourage sustainable tourism initiatives and actions aimed at diversifying into new segments and niches
Brief description of the project: A number of new sustainable tourism products and initiatives will be created in cooperation with the local communities of the identified and selected areas of the involved territories, taking a holistic and integrated approach to address the challenges of sustainable tourism and specifically the challenge of seasonality, by facilitating tourism flows during the medium and low seasons, and focusing in specific niches with cross border dimension. Action plans will be developed by the project partners involving the local authorities and local stakeholders of the involved territories detailing participatory activities in the project that can create job opportunities and generate income for their communities, in return to their active participation and cooperation.
Main objectives – issues to be addressed: The aim of the project is to promote the development of a number of transnational tourism products and initiatives targeting seniors and youth, identified as the groups that can travel easily during the low season. The main objective is to disperse visitors throughout a region with initiatives jointly developed by transnational public and private partnerships, utilizing the special characteristics of the involved territories and focusing in their natural and cultural assets.
Expected results: Increased diversification of tourism offer through the promotion of local and territorial assets / drivers in off-season periods. Increased attractiveness of less- known touristic destinations.
Partners already involved: PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd (Cyprus), Cyprus University of Technology, FPA El Legado Andalusí, IUCN ROWA, The Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Centre, Lazio Regional Tourist Agency of Lazio Region.
