Green and Sustainable Public Administration Buildings
Brève description du projet : Over the past few years, we have seen a number of state and local governments adopting regulations, requirements and initiatives focused on green and sustainable buildings. Reducing energy usage and water usage are the top environmental issues driving green construction. In fact, renewable energy continues to gain in popularity as a sustainable alternative to power the built environment. The energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies currently available have created the possibility of net-zero and net-positive energy buildings. This is achieved through a combination of design, energy efficiencies and renewable energy production. The public sector faces numerous challenges with regard to the development of energy efficiency investments such as technical, economic, budget, legal and institutional ones. In view of these challenges, this project will seek to develop and design strategies in order to apply renewable energy systems to public buildings.
Objectifs principaux – problèmes à traiter: The overall objective of the proposed project is the regeneration of one specific Public Administration building in Malta and Partner Countries (as Pilot Projects) to pave the way for a more green and sustainable future with the aim of moving closer towards achieving the 2020 targets on energy and climate protection.
Résultats attendus: This innovative project will address the challenges of reducing the energy consumption and GHG emissions of public buildings through the use of renewable energy measures and energy-saving interventions. This project will thus provide a good practice example of energy efficient public buildings and will serve as a pilot project for future similar investments.
